An intensive course concentrates more study into each week. It may suit someone who can attend frequently and reserve time for revision between lessons. A part-time course spreads lessons over a lighter weekly schedule, which can be easier to combine with work or family commitments.

Neither label tells you the full timetable. Ask for the number and length of sessions, the course duration and expected independent practice. Compare the actual schedule with your availability before choosing.

Match the level as well as the pace

A faster timetable is useful only when the class matches your current skills. A learner starting from zero and a learner already comfortable with everyday conversations may need different courses, even when both want to study intensively.

LICA currently lists its Intensive Portuguese pathway at B1–B2. Beginners should ask about the A1–A2 Everyday Life option and the available timetable. Confirm placement with the team instead of choosing by the word intensive alone.

Understand the delivery format

Pace and delivery mode describe different things. Intensive describes the rhythm of study; in person, hybrid and online describe how you attend. A hybrid course combines classroom and online sessions, so ask which days use each format and what equipment you need.

For sessions in Lisbon, include travel time in your plan. For online sessions, confirm the time zone and platform. LICA’s course pages show the listed mode and schedule; contact admissions for the next available group and any changes.

Make the decision with complete information

Compare total fees, guided hours, materials, attendance expectations and the support available when you miss a lesson. Ask what is included in the quoted fee and how progress is assessed. Do not assume a shorter course will achieve the same result for every learner.
